State of the Author: Grieving, Again

A week or so ago, my friend Veronica let us know that her dad has passed away due to complications of COVID-19.

Yesterday, it was my turn to lose someone in my circle: my pal Vernon, one of the kindest people you’d ever want to know. He was asymptomatic, but he wound up having a severe asthma attack yesterday and was taken to the hospital, at which point more was learned (I am gathering all of this from social media posts, BTW). Six hours after arriving at the hospital by ambulance, he went into respiratory failure and cardiac arrest. His underlying asthma put him at greater risk, and now he’s gone.

He was 45 years old. He leaves behind a teenage daughter and a fiancee.

This is everything I know right now.

Wash your hands. Wear your mask. Follow social distancing.None of your friends and family want to feel the way we do right now.
