Blogging A to Z: 2020 Reflection

funny-pictures-exhausted-cat-alphabetized-cdsHi, everyone.

Wow. I’m almost not sure where to start. First and foremost, I wish to thank all who visited my blog and commented. Likewise, a special welcome to those who became new followers. You are greatly appreciated!

This year, my theme was Facts About Pompeii. I wanted to share some of my travel photos and information gleaned in the research for my current work-in-progress, Pompeii Fire.  I posted here, on the A to Z website, my author page on Facebook, and the FB group page for my chapter of the Historical Novel Society.

This was my fourth year doing the challenge. This year, I had fewer visitors than any other year. I initially thought it was because of no longer being on Twitter, but when the challenge was over I was at 97% of my previous low year, when the theme was David Bowie’s music. So, it clearly wasn’t Twitter … but perhaps my theme.

MissionAccomplishedI did go and comment on several blogs, but I must confess that it was with no particular degree of regularity. I just didn’t have it in me, to be honest; working at home, writing a book, and taking classes wore me out more than I anticipated. I had initially believed that the coronavirus quarantine would render me able to get more things crammed in around the edges than proved to be the case. On the plus side, I found and started following a few new ones as well (as happens every year).

Doing this challenge is a lot of work, as those who participate will confirm. Each year when I’m done, I find myself uncertain whether I’ll do it again. I guess we’ll find out in 2021!

  1. I’ve heard from several people that their numbers were down. Me, I think it’s COVID. I am simply not motivated. I try to slog through it but if I’m at even 97% of what I used to be, it would be great!

    1. That’s a really good point (COVID). If one is working from home for their day job (as I am), there’s no really good delineation around personal time … and people may just be exhausted! Heaven knows, I am! If I hadn’t plotted out the entire challenge before the lockdown, I might not have done it. Thanks for stopping by!

    1. Thank you so much! The first year I did the challenge, I jumped in on a whim with no real plan per se, but did a lot of things related to the book I was releasing. The next year was David Bowie. Last year was the 10th anniversary of my first novel. This year, of course, you know. I am glad you enjoyed my posts!

  3. Thanks for participating in the A to Z Challenge this year! I know it’s a lot of work, but it’s worth it, and I hope you join us next year. I enjoyed your posts tremendously.

  4. Time was an issue this year — getting all my posts polished, fighting with Amazon about my new book (it got published in the end), writing, and all the life stuff — but I did enjoy your posts once I got around to them (today!). I wanted to share them all on Twitter until I realised that you were no longer on the platform…

    1. Please, do go ahead and share regardless, if you feel so inclined. Being banned from Twitter for calling out a white supremacist’s bullshit in no uncertain terms is a badge of honor for me. Your readers may enjoy them!

Thank you very much for your kind words!
