Weekend Reads: “Homer and the Holiday Miracle”

Homer and the Holiday MiracleHomer and the Holiday Miracle by Gwen Cooper

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Every once in a while, you’ll find me refer to a book as so special that I kept it under my pillow for a while because I wasn’t quite ready to put it on the shelf.

“Homer and the Holiday Miracle” is one such book.

The slim volume tells the story of Homer’s diagnosis with liver failure, right before Hanukkah, and how Gwen Cooper prayed to have her precious blind cat for one more Christmas. Against all odds, she gets her wish … and then some.

I’m a huge fan of Gwen Cooper’s writing, and fell in love with Homer when she shared him with us in “Homer’s Odyssey.” Defying all logic, Cooper makes readers feel as though Homer belonged to all of us as we see his antics through her eyes.

This is a beautiful little holiday tale that will make you smile and cry all at the same time. And maybe, just maybe, you’ll want to keep it under your pillow too.
