I had a crazy-busy weekend, with dental and hair appointments, helping a friend move her father into assisted living, and more. However, it wasn’t all work and no play. Friday night, my husband and I attended Voodoo Threauxdown, a fantastic jazz and funk concert, at UC Berkeley’s Greek Theatre. The lineup was New Breed Brass Band, Preservation Hall Jazz Band with special guest Kermit Ruffins, Galactic with special guest Walter “Wolfman” Washington, and Trombone Shorty with special guest Cyril Neville. It was especially nice to catch up with my buddy Ronell Johnson, who plays trombone and tuba for Preservation Hall.
It almost goes without saying that the music was great, with that lineup!
For the next few weeks, I’ll be sharing music from these fabulous acts. Today, please enjoy Trombone Shorty performing The Meters’ “Fire on the Bayou” at the White House.
What you mean to say is, “Fiyo on da bayou.” It’s Treme speak where most of dem guys come from. 🙂
