If you read You Had to Be There: Three Years of Mayhem and Bad Decisions in the Portland Music Scene, you might recall that I managed a local band called Arctic Sun. As I mentioned in a previous blog post, I’ll be re-releasing the book under a new title (Music, Mayhem, and Bad Decisions: Three Years in the Portland Punk Scene) next year … but the content is not going to change.
In that light, I am sharing a solo piece by Guy Gilray, who was the lead guitarist in Arctic Sun. Guy released a new album, His Name is Thunder, this month. This song, “Twenty-One,” is from an earlier album entitled Baby Blue and Bubblegum Pink. I love the way he’s incorporated film and video footage from his older bands’ work in his presentation. The whole thing is delightfully atmospheric. Enjoy!
